HESSIAN MAGAZINE

Melbourne friends have recently launched brand new HESSIAN MAGAZINE
a much needed magazine that showcases sustainable fashion 'whithout the shit'
- ie: no hippie naff-ness, just awesome fashion that doesn't hurt the earth.

I was lucky enough to be interviewed this issue, while it features
some of my fave designers and photographers (absolutely ADORE the work of
Phebe Schmidt, who snapped the lilac cover)

You can buy Hessian in select magazine outlets or handily online here.

TALENTED PALS : ELOISE FUSS

I have a friend called Eloise.

She has the most gorgeous strawberry curlsbubbly personality, and,
she takes beautiful photographs.

Recently we hung out for coffee at one of my favorite places in the world -
The Adelaide Central Market, where she snapped this pic of me before it
bucketed down with hail.

Currently living away from her Adelaide base, she’s often carrying a camera
around her neck while she travels across small towns and pretty landscapes
in South Australia.

Here are some pictures all by Eloise, and more can be seen via her blog,
'ELOISE AND THE ISLAND' Here

AFTERNOON KICK

I love herbal tea but there's nothing like a pot of steamy, zesty flavors made from scratch!

I love experimenting with different flavour combos, particularly citrus zests, sliced fruit
and spices like cloves, cardamom or fennel seeds.

This afternoon I made one of my old faves - ginger & lemon kick. This recipe is simple
but it's got at a real ginger bite you just can't get from dried ginger tea - try it!

For a medium pot, you'll need:

- Approx. 5cm chunk of ginger, grated
- zest from 1 x lemon, grated, plus the juice
- 2-3 teaspoons honey, or to taste

Method:

Add all ingredients to the pot & cover with plenty of boiling water. Stir  &  let steep for
5 minutes. Pour slowly into your cup (to keep the bits at the bottom) and serve with a slice
of fresh lemon.

The flavours get stronger the longer you leave it, and and you can top it up with boiling
water (& a little honey) to keep those flavours rolling-on.

Enjoy with a pal or solo.

BYE BYE HOLIDAYS, HELLO 2014

Back in the studio this week, it’s hard to imagine only a few days
ago I was swimming in the ocean above big blue sky in Pt.Elliot,
 South Australia.

I really love Pt.Elliot. Maybe it’s something about the massive
granite rocks or the wild sea life or the many trips I had there
as a kid, but it's definitely one of the most magical places to
forget about everything, just for a moment.

While the holidays are now over I can’t wait to get stuck into the
New Year, it’s going to be a mega one - I just know it!

Bye Bye holidays, Hello 2014!

BEHIND THE COLLECTION : The Nocturnal Print

This week, another feature from Behind The Collection :
The making of The Nocturnal Print.

In the studio: The moodboard of the very first sketches,
sugargliders, eucalyptus blossoms, William Morris and May Gibbs.

Lots of drawing in the studio! The first stages of the design,
composing the repeat and perfecting the final outline.

The next stages involved layering many components of the design,
 painting and mark-making by hand.

One of my favourite parts: bringing the sugargliders to life!

Making the starry night sky.......

Voila! The finished design, digitally printed onto silks and cottons.

The Nocturnal Printed silk scarf - perfect around your neck!

The scarves can be found HERE.

My new collection has a double page feature in the latest issue of Frankie Magazine!
Frankie's been a favourite of mine for years now.

With a global readership of around 290K I'm feeling pretty chuffed to be given
the recognition I couldn't have imagined when I started designing.

Find it on news stands right now!

BEHIND THE COLLECTION : The Ornamental Leaf Print

This week, another feature from Behind The Collection :

In the studio: This hand-drawn print was inspired
by rhythmical wallpaper designs by William Morris.

To make this print extra special, I drew directly onto the
toile to make the engineered placement sit just right.

Voila! Digitally printed onto a silk scarf

SNEAK PEEK : THE WARATAH DEGRADE

After designing the new Waratah Print, I decided to make a special customized
version of the print for a pair of trousers.

For this version of the Waratah Print, the first hand sketch of the design is revealed.
Digitally printed, every stroke of ink and and every penciled detail is translated onto
fabric from the original working drawings.

Take a sneaky close up look at this new pair of trousers featuring in my upcoming collection!

THE WARATAH PRINT : BEHIND THE DESIGN

After recently designing the bright new Waratah print for my upcoming collection,
I thought I'd share some of the inspirations behind the design and the making of it

A selection of inspiration ingredients behind the design...

Through the process of developing the print, I had a lot of fun researching different
species of waratahs in secondhand bookstores.

I was inspired by the works William Morris and his famous rhythmic floral wallpaper
designs.

The traditional style of these 19th-century designs influenced the composition of
the Waratah print, and this this is where the drawing process began...

A peek from the studio: Hand drawing the first outline of the design in pencil
before filling out with vibrant colours.

 The final printed fabric:

Matching the print design to each garment for the first outfit of the collection.

More will be revealed soon!
